Arriving on Sunday this week was a group from IA – six young men and five young ladies,  several of who have served with MDS before.

On Monday a crew went to Gregory, working on the final check list there.  Another group of volunteers went to Mr. Stan’s to work on various jobs while we wait for the inspection and then the drywallers can start their work in that house.  On 10th Street, they continued on interior trim work.  Several young ladies enjoyed the outdoors here on site painting doors and trim.

On Tuesday we passed the needed inspections on two houses so now we can go ahead with putting up drywall in the Habitat house and continuing work at Mr. Stan’s.  The checklist continues on the homes in Gregory and Taft.  Appliances were installed, nail holes filled, trim painted a final coat and exterior doors painted.  The trades should finish their work and then we will have plenty of work to do!

Tuesday evening we had a beautiful night for our weekly grilling and campfire.  The volunteers had fun playing four square outside on the driveway, and even an adult or two joined in for a bit, although the kids had much more energy!

Several volunteers painted doors and trim at the base on Thursday.  To give back to the City of Rockport and to thank them for the use of their facilities here, we began tearing out the temporary walls in the garage, and a very efficient crew of young ladies painted the large dining/gathering room.  The fresh coat of paint brightens up the room!  By the end of the week, the drywall and finishing was done at Mr. Stan’s and we are ready for painting on Monday!

After breakfast on Thursday we said goodbye to Andy and Maureen who, after 5 weeks here as assistant cook and crew member, left to head to the RV site in Marianna, FL, to serve there for several weeks.  A big thank you to both of them for all their work here in Rockport!

Friday morning we, along with Coastal Bend RV, attended the home dedication for Pearl at 13th Street.  After living in Corpus Christi for 4 1/2  years since the hurricane, she is so excited and extremely grateful to be able to move into her new home back in her own community!
