Crisfield, MD – Nov. 12-18, 2023
Long-term volunteers continuing from last week were Tim & Michelle Gerber, serving as our head and assistant cooks, David King serving as crew leader, Don & Rachel Horst, serving as our project director and office manager. We said goodbye to Gordon Baergen and welcomed Joanne Barta from OR, now serving as our second crew leader. Our 12 weekly volunteers were all from Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN bringing the total number of volunteers this week to 18.
The washer and dryer were hooked up at the Beachy house as well as mirrors hung, and the kitchen island put together. Several corrections to the front porch and siding were made at the Shallcross house as well as decking boards installed, and trenches dug for the sewer and water line. At the Bradley house, posts, pickets, and treads were installed on the ramp. Preparations for elevating the Morgan house began with the removal of the chimney, baseboard heating, furnace, and the utility room.
Highlight of the week included beautiful weather so the outdoor work could move ahead nicely. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed Tim and Michelle’s craft of fixing scrumptious meals for us, including BBQ chicken on the grill.
Next week we plan on building back steps to the ramp at the Beachy house, working on the ramp at the Bradley house and focusing on getting the Morgan house ready for elevation.
We were encouraged again by the presence of a mixture of new and seasoned volunteers, including a father/daughter on the team. What a joy to see the spirit of serving others being passed on to the next generation.
