San Juan, PR – Feb. 15-21, 2026
A group of men from Holmes County Ohio began their week in the mountains of Puerto Rico near Jajuya and ended the week in the city of San Juan. Wednesday was the transition day following a well-attended home dedication.
All four Jajuya projects begun early in January were completed. The house we dedicated needed to be demolished first then was completely rebuilt. Representatives from Techos Pa Mi Gente participated as well as Miguel’s family, pastor, business owners and friends.
The Methodist camp in Jajuya rented by MDS served us well. All the kitchen and office equipment fit in the back of a small passenger van. Construction tools and extra materials were packed in the tool trailer and trucks. The trip between Jajuya and San Juan is an unforgettable experience including hair pin curves and narrow bridges.
Facilities at TPMG include self-contained small apartments that house two each. The office building includes the kitchen and dining room and MDS office. The grounds are lovingly cared for by a part-time gardener. Insects and frogs make night music; roosters and birds continue throughout the day.
Our volunteers began two roof projects on Thursday and continued through Friday. Thursday evening we enjoyed a traditional Puerto Rican meal prepared by the mother of the camp facilities director.
On Saturday the Ohio group explored old San Juan before flying back home.
We anticipate nine weekly volunteers next week. They will come from Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa and upstate New York.
