A wonderfully energetic team of 10 men and 2 women served as Weekly Volunteers this past week, many from the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania.   With their help and energy, our full team (including 7 LT volunteers) moved closer to achieving a more “finished” state for the interior of our 3 homes we are so proud of in the Pointe au Chien community.

As mentioned last week, work is almost exclusively focused within the interior of 3 homes.  This week’s early work focused on assuring that the walls and ceilings in our 3 homes were prepared to be primed and painted. Once that was complete, let the priming and painting begin!!!  Throughout the week, the volunteers realized exactly how much painting had to be done within each home, including bathrooms and closets.  Once that was accomplished, it was time to install the kitchen cabinets and move onto installing the flooring in every room.  All 3 homes achieved that status this week.  You may ask, what is next?

The next steps after the floor is finished is to install the window box frames, add the countertop to the kitchen cabinets, wiring lighting fixtures and setting up the tub and vanity in the bathrooms.

Because 2 of our 4 homes, within this project, are 2 and 3 bedroom homes, one of the 1 bedroom homes was the first home this week that was the closest to being finished and a great model for the visitors who attended the Dedication Ceremony of 3 homes on Thursday.  All volunteers felt honored this week to have the opportunity to attend the Dedication and to learn more about the homeowners.  The tribal council and residents of Pointe au Chien sponsored a dinner here where volunteers are housed after the Dedication Ceremonies.  Great food and fellowship was enjoyed by all who attended, including the volunteers.

In the team’s free time they were able to enjoy a ride provided by community leaders to visit the water beyond the bayou to see the dolphins and the two famous horses of the area who live on the island. As in other weeks, the weekly volunteers often shared their voices to add inspiration to our times of devotion.     We have found that each week brings new blessings to the residents, as well as the volunteer teams working here in this beautiful environment.
