Point Au Chien, LA – Mar. 1-7, 2026
5 young guys and 6 young girls drove to Pointe-Aux-Chenes, Louisiana, from northern Iowa to work for the week of March 1 – 7 with the leadership team. Joining them was 5 members of the Muff family from Minnesota. Tobias Muff had previously served as a crew leader and brought all but 2 of his family with him to spend an additional week. To say the least, the leadership team was thrilled to have them. The Muff family finished outside work at Jade’s and Roger’s houses across the bayou. They build two staircases, and if that doesn’t impress you, keep in mind that these houses are 14 feet off the ground, and these staircases included about 200 spindles per set. While the Muffs worked on stairs and other miscellaneous items, the Iowa crew shingled the roof, sided, calked, and painted and finished one set of stairs while building another at Grace’s house. When finished there, they crossed the bayou and built steps and railing at Jade’s while painting the last of the soffit and facia. Ceilings were drywalled at Norris’ and Roger’s house also.
We loved hearing from Grace and her husband, Josh, that they had a special moment one evening when they decided to climb their new stairs for the first time together. While she giggled and said that she wasn’t carried over the threshold, we loved the special moment they were able to have together. This leadership team is beyond proud of the weekly volunteers we have hosted. Grace’s house was added very late, and it was questionable if it would be able to be dried in with the others. This week these young people were able to accomplish that and move to inside work. What a blessing!
