Grand Isle, LA – RV – March 17-23, 2024
We cannot believe that this is our third week of March already! Eddie’s house is almost completed except for the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities! This week at Eddie’s house Larry connected and tested the water lines hence, he needed to repair some plumbing leaks. Mark and Leonard installed trim and modified the attic access steps. Myra and Twila continued to install electrical covers and touched up the trim paint. The cabinets and vanities finally arrived on Thursday, so after Leonard, Twila, Pete, Mark and Myra unloaded them, Eddie was able to lift them up 16 feet into his house with the tele-handler. We were grateful they did not need to be carried up the stairs! Myra and Pete set the vanity and sink top, and Leonard, Twila, Pete, Mark, and Myra began installing kitchen cabinets. Since time is of the essence, Pete, Mark, Ron, Larry, and Leonard worked a few hours on Friday installing the second bathroom vanity and then continued working on the kitchen cabinets.
Chris’s house is also looking good. Ron, Milt, Martha, Lorna and Pete worked there and finished installing the flooring. They also installed the rest of the wall panels, some window trim and started clean-up.
Work and no play? This team cannot say that. The Bayou Community Foundation, the fundraising source for the projects on Grand Isle, invited us to dinner at Copeland’s Restaurant in Houma on Tuesday night. It was a delicious dinner and so nice to be able to visit with some members of the BCF Board. On Thursday night, we had a pizza party in the office trailer. Friday morning, we were delighted to be invited to breakfast at the Starfish Restaurant by Phil Helmuth (MDS Region 2 Operations Manager) and his lovely wife, Loretta. Friday and Saturday evenings we had a great time playing card games. On Sunday we traveled off the island to Community Bible Church in Cut-Off and enjoyed a yummy lunch at Binny-Bs in Galliano. Later that day several of us played a few games of corn hole and did surprisingly well. We continue to enjoy the meaningful work here on the island as well as the friendships we are forming. We are so blessed!
