Flat Rock/Hendersonville, NC (NC Bridges) – Jan. 5-9, 2026
We had a total of 11 volunteers during this week 1/4 – 1/9; 7 Weekly, 2 Crew Leaders, and 2 Leadership volunteers, to work on the Albright Bridge in Hendersonville and the Martin Bridge in Flat Rock. Our volunteers were from SC, VA, OH, PA, NE, and IN.
The volunteers worked on 2 bridges this week. Progress was as follows:
Albright Bridge: On Monday 6 volunteers set beams, started welding, and laid rip rap. On Tuesday 6 volunteers all day and 3 more for a few hours to finish welding and paint half of the decking. On Wednesday 6 volunteers worked all day, and 3 more volunteers came for half of the day to work on decking and build the forms for the end wall. On Thursday 6 volunteers finished decking, poured concrete, finished curbs, and set one load of rip rap. On Friday 5 volunteers removed forms, installed reflectors and sign, set concrete blocks, and backfilled. A bridge dedication is scheduled for this bridge on Friday, January 16th, at 3:00.
Martin Bridge: On Monday 5 volunteers worked on footings and removed old bridge. On Tuesday 4 volunteers drove the pilings and set up footing forms. On Wednesday 4 volunteers set up and poured footings. On Thursday 4 volunteers formed up bridge rail walls and filled with concrete and back-filled footings. On Friday 3 volunteers removed wall forms and placed rip rap in front of abutments.
