North Carolina Bridges – Jun. 8-13, 2026
We had a total of 11 volunteers during this week; 5 Weekly, 5 Leadership volunteers including the 2 cooks, and 1 Long Term, to work on the Pace Bridge and the Whitmire in Hendersonville. Our volunteers were from VA, OH, PA, NY, SC, and Canada.
We worked on two bridges this week, Pace Bridge & Whitmire Bridge. Progress was as follows:
Monday: 9 volunteers finished the steel work and started the deck. Also, finished rip rap.
Tuesday, 9 volunteers finished deck, started curbing, and poured end walls.
Wednesday, 9 volunteers worked at the Pace Bridge pulling forms and finishing curbs, then moved to the Whitmire Bridge and started footer excavation and driving piles.
Thursday, 4 volunteers set the block and worked on bridge approaches at the Pace Bridge, and 5 volunteers excavated for footers and drove piles at the Whitmire Bridge.
Friday, 4 volunteers finished the bridge approach at the Pace Bridge and 5 volunteers formed and poured footers and stem walls at the Whitmire Bridge.
