At the Elk project site, nine long-term volunteers are currently serving, joined this week by two weekly volunteers from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As the project officially opened, much of the week was spent organizing and setting up the kitchen and office, as well as sorting through supplies to determine what was still needed. Construction crews focused on marking off the site in preparation for excavation and laying the foundation for the first home.

A highlight of the week was meeting one another and watching the project begin to take shape as everything came together. In the coming week, the team plans to complete the foundation and footers for two homes so that construction can continue. Toward the end of the week, volunteers will also work on various jobs around the camp that have been identified.

Although the group didn’t take a photo this week—since some volunteers arrived later on Friday—the same team will be serving next week.
