Although a larger volunteer group had to cancel at the last minute, two weekly volunteers from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, joined our leadership team on site—and what an impact they made. With fewer hands but plenty of determination, the team began work on two sites that will be built from the ground up. They staked out the locations, set the foundation forms and footers, and prepared for the concrete pour. Once the footing concrete was poured, they set the foundation wall forms and installed the rebar.

While waiting for concrete, the volunteers also enclosed an outdoor area at the camp where they are staying. This new space will give future groups a comfortable place to gather and unwind after long days of service.

One of the highlights of the week was seeing how this small but mighty crew tackled every challenge with a positive spirit—shoveling, hauling, and moving concrete by hand with steady resolve and teamwork.

Looking ahead, the team hopes to complete the remaining preparations and be ready to pour the concrete for the foundation in the coming week.
