The week of June 14 saw another group of MDS volunteers arrive excited and exhausted from a long flight. After a well-deserved night’s rest they got to work. As one of those lovely people, this was my first time volunteering for MDS. I absolutely loved it and plan on coming back! From the new friendships to meeting the homeowners and hearing their stories. This was truly a blessed experience.

This week included a lot of working together…. ALL in one place. Many tools were stolen (borrowed) by other crew members. Through this teamwork we were able to accomplish a few things, such as the soffits and concrete in the basements of both the Harrison house and the Monias house. The framing is still in progress and we’ve begun the siding for Lauze’s house.

God has revealed Himself several times through these things, from a little fox friend visit and a rhubarb emergency in the kitchen, to a homeowner loving the progress on their house! How fulfilling that is alone! We also can’t forget the delicious fish fry hosted by one of the homeowners! These wholesome things remind us that God is always there working in His own way!

The fellowship between the volunteers and the community is truly admirable. After such a devastating disaster the only thing to do is work together and that is exactly what the people of Denare Beach have done!

Lord willing these homes will continue being built and through His strength will be completed. 1 John 3:16-18 “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against his brother, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

I can’t wait for more God-given side quests! Hopefully some that include hanging up metal rectangles and sawing holes through the floor (HVAC).
