MDS was a fun experience to go through. All together our youth group that came had 14 people and there were a few more that joined us rounding out around 20 people, maybe a bit more. We got a lot of work done in the different houses throughout the week. Flooring was finished in two of them, the mudding in one, and the drywall in another. This week was full of a lot of firsts (and maybe some lasts) but from talking with everyone we would all do it again if we have the chance.

It was cool meeting so many people from all over Canada. Some from Ontario and others from BC, but all of us were serving the Lord through our work. All of us looked forward to every meal we had because the cooking was so good. Sara, the cook, made for us some of the most delicious large quantity meals I’ve ever had and I heard no complaints from anyone else. One thing she did exceptionally well was the dietary restrictions. We had a couple in our group that had allergies with one celiac, and she made accommodations for everyone.

We all enjoyed our outings in the evenings. From the crevices on Tuesday, to cliff jumping Friday, I don’t think we could’ve asked for a more unique and fun experience. We all formed a tight community in this short week and made friendships that will last a while.

If I would recommend anything to people coming into a week at MDS it would be to prepare for a week of hard work, long-lasting memories, and a community that will welcome you with open arms. It’s so cool to have access to this way of serving and I can’t wait to see where these connections and experience will take me in the future, and on behalf of the group I want to thank all the long-term volunteers that make projects like this happen and give these homeowners a chance at living back in their communities.
