This weekend of February 17 was transition time at the Dawson Springs, KY, MDS base.  David and Patti Hughes ended their six weeks here and we thank them for their time of service and their work here!  As well, Neil Pettifor left for his home on Friday after two weeks as crew leader, and we are thankful for the  skills and direction he provided for the work here!  Mike and Linda Stuckey arrived on Wednesday evening to do a few days of overlap with David and Patti and they will be the new Project Director and Office Manager for the next six weeks.  Eric Douglas and Ron Roth continue as crew leaders, along with cooks, Char Roth, Melanie Zimmerman and Michelle Weaver.

Sunday evening our new weekly volunteers arrived from Pennsylvania.  Two drivers brought two vans bringing a couple, 5 young women and 10 young men.  They bring many skills and much energy, which we are grateful for!

Monday we sent teams out to three different sites for a variety of work.  Several went to Evelyn’s house to frame the porches and ramp and to trim windows for siding.  On Tuesday, work continued on siding and trim, porches and ramp, and exterior doors were set. By Wednesday the ceiling porch was up and volunteers began painting exterior trim.   By the end of the week, volunteers were painting siding and trim.

At Lisa’s house, six volunteers installed sofit and finished the fascia, put on and caulked siding and the porch was begun.  On Tuesday the siding was finished and exterior painting begun, stairs were built and railings installed.  The side deck was built on Wednesday.   By the end of the week, the deck and exterior painting was finished!

The last drywall was sanded at Lila’s house on Monday and then the whole interior was primed – ceiling and walls, and the painting of color began, with the painting continuing through the rest of the week, including starting to paint interior trim and doors.

There was a lot of painting going this week and by the end of the week volunteers were also painting on Alan’s house!   We are grateful to our busy and dedicated volunteers for all their work this week!

We said our goodbyes to year long volunteer and Crew Leader Eric Douglas on Wednesday evening.  He left very early Thursday morning for his flight to the MDS Annual Celebration.  We enjoyed having him with us and hated to see him go.  Thanks Eric, for your leadership here!
