Conroe, TX – Mar. 15- 21, 2026
Now we come to the exciting time in an MDS project when the new builds are being completed and the home dedications are beginning.
This week’s volunteers, consisting of a group of 10 folks (including one teenage grandson) from the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel, Kansas, and 2 dads with their teenage sons from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, were able to join us for the joyous home dedication ceremony at the Crumbley house. In addition to the family, we were joined by Godfrey Hubert, Marcus Carlson, and several other staff members of Hope Disaster Recovery (HDR) (our partner here in Conroe), and Matt Troyer-Miller (MDS Regional Operations Coordinator for Region 3). Portions of the event were filmed by the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, of which HDR is a part.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace, another non-profit that uses part of the building we are in, makes beds for kids who would otherwise be sleeping on a mattress on the floor. They generously donated beds for us to give to the families with whom we have been working. It was wonderful to see the beds covered with words of encouragement written by MDS volunteers ready for the Crumbley kids to use when we turned over the house keys to them.
This week at the Garcia house, there was lots of painting and trim work that got done as well as hanging the cabinets and some plumbing work. At the Molina house, there was work done on the water line, blinds were installed, and clean up was done. And details were finished up at the Crumbley house before the dedication.
Besides working on the new builds, repair jobs included mucking out and removing wet material at a local Methodist church after a broken pipe flooded the sanctuary, removing old flooring and installing new at the Cooper house, and painting, trim work, cabinet repair, and door installation at the Cooke house.
We are so grateful for the wonderful weekly volunteers who come to help us restore hope, healing, and sometimes health where people have been living with mold in their homes, sometimes for years.
