A team of 13 young men served as weekly Volunteers this past week from Davis County in Indiana and gave the efforts here a real boost toward finishing the 4 homes in the Pointe au Chien community. With their help, our team of 7 LT volunteers were able to accomplish a good deal of hard work, sprinkled with some great experiences for the volunteer team.
As mentioned last week, because the previous week’s team had moved all 4 homes to a dried-in status, the team this week was able to focus primarily on working within the interior of 3 of the homes.  As expected, this week’s work agenda focused first on the final sanding of the drywall and bondo areas, insulating the attics, and then moving forward with hanging cabinets, installing flooring/base board, adding doors, and priming and painting walls and ceilings.  Also, cement pads at the base of the homes’ stairs were framed and poured at the homes. The work this week moved the status of the home building closer to the final stages of completion that will be addressed in the next two weeks as the project wraps up.
In the team’s free time they were able to enjoy a ride to visit the water beyond the bayou which was provided by community leaders.   As in other weeks, the weekly volunteers often shared their voices to add inspiration to our times of devotion.  We were fortunate to again have community leaders join us for the Wednesday night dinner to share the history of Point au Chien.  We have found that each week brings new blessings to the residents, as well as the volunteer teams working here in this beautiful environment.
Next week, the LT volunteers and the Weekly Volunteer crew will fortunately be able to witness the Dedication Ceremony of 3 homes which will be celebrated next Thursday, March 26th.
