Black Mountain/ Hendersonville, NC – Nov. 9-14, 2025 (NC Bridges)
We had a total of 13 volunteers during the week of 11/9 to 11/14: 10 weekly volunteers and 3 leadership volunteers. They worked on the Beg Bridge in Black Mountain and the Albright and Gongage Bridges in Hendersonville. Our volunteers were from PA and IN.
Our volunteers worked on three bridges this week. Progress was as follows:
Beg Bridge:
This bridge is completed. On Monday, three of the volunteers finished grading the driveway stone and spreading grass seed on the disturbed soil.
Albright Bridge:
On Monday, the volunteers built bridge footers, dug for footings, and cut and bent rebar. On Tuesday, they set forms and continued cutting, bending, and tying rebar. On Wednesday, the volunteers continued rebar work and built and set forms. On Thursday, they welded pile caps, set the stone wall, and dug footers. On Friday, they set the foundation form, drove all eight piles to seven feet, and placed rebar in the stem wall.
Gongage Bridge:
On Monday, the volunteers drilled and epoxied rebar in the concrete. On Tuesday, they did form work and set anchor bolts. On Wednesday, the volunteers installed rebar and poured the concrete abutments. On Thursday, they removed the concrete forms, set the bridge beams, and started welding. On Friday, the volunteers welded, painted, and started decking.
Invitations have been sent out for the dedication of this bridge on November 22.
