Wynne, AR – March 9-15, 2025
A team of thirteen from Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Atglen PA joined us this week. Not only was it a talented and skilled group, it also included a three generation Beiler family. (see group photo with the Beilers on the couch)
The punch list for two more homes was completed making It possible to do two dedications back-to-back on Friday. Our fourth home is scheduled for dedication March 27. The punch list work will be completed next week.
The homes of Grandester Johnson and Lawanda Scott were dedicated. Each home was beautifully furnished complete with appliances. Friends, family and community leaders joined in the celebration. (see the MDS Facebook page for a video report)
Two smaller repair projects were begun at the recommendation of the Wynne Long Term Recovery Committee. One was completed; the other one will occupy some time next week.
Roger Classen, Henderson Nebraska, spent the week demolishing a house and two house trailers at the request of the WLTRC. Roger is a special gift to MDS using his equipment to haul vehicles and trailers to job sites as well as excavating and demolishing houses on request. Most of his volunteer time Is behind the scenes.
In the photos below, observe two ways Roger used his hands this week. One, to manipulate the controls on his machine. Second, creating peace cranes from Dove Chocolate wrappers, a skill he learned as a young boy.
The ladies from St Peters Catholic church provided a delicious meal featuring chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and lemon pie.
Deadly tornados caused destruction several hours north of Wynne on Friday night. Our PA group felt fortunate to be able to fly out of Memphis on Saturday morning and arrive home safely that afternoon.
Mel Miller, Harrisburg PA, arrived on Saturday and will serve as crew until we close March 29.
Next week our volunteers will come from Heritage High School in Hagerstown MD.
