Spencer, IA (SYP) – Aug 2-8, 2026

Twelve weekly volunteers, six leadership volunteers, one long-term volunteer, and Office Manager trainee served on the project this week. Team members traveled from Kansas, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania, bringing a wide range of skills and experience to the worksite.

Volunteers made significant progress across multiple homes. Work completed included hanging and finishing drywall, replacing trim on four doors, setting a toilet, installing a drop ceiling, replacing floor joists and subflooring in a 13′ x 9′ room, installing vapor barriers and wall foam insulation, hanging and beginning to finish additional drywall, installing waste plumbing for a toilet and sump pump, painting numerous walls, installing LED lighting for drop ceilings, and laying flooring. These accomplishments moved several projects substantially closer to completion.

One of the week’s greatest highlights was the completion and closure of four jobs, a testament to the dedication and hard work of the volunteer teams. Work also continued on four additional homes, ensuring that progress remains strong heading into the coming week. Another highlight was the opportunity for a new Office Manager to shadow an experienced one as part of his training, helping prepare for future leadership and project support needs.

Looking ahead, volunteers will continue work on the remaining homes, focusing on advancing drywall finishing, flooring, painting, and final installation tasks. With the momentum gained this week, the team is well-positioned to reach additional project milestones and serve more homeowners in the days ahead.
