Point Au Chien, LA – Feb. 8-14, 2026
The week of February 8-14 brought a vanload of 12 determined young men to Pointe-Aux-Chenes. Two had served previously, and some knew other previous volunteers; therefore, they came knowing where we were at and had big plans to finish up drying in 2 houses.
From the moment their feet hit the ground on Monday morning, they buzzed around like honeybees in a hive. Up and down ladders and stairs, in and out of the house, there was constant progress. Some began with finishing up details at Roger’s house. The rest at Jade’s finished partitions, porch beams and front steps. By the end of the week, they had the outside complete but 2/3 of Jade’s siding, and the second coat of paint. The electricians and plumbers were doing what they needed to do at Roger’s, and pylon beams, floor joists and half of the sub floor was on Norris’ house.
It should be possible to finish up Jade’s house by Tuesday of next week so that electricians and plumbers can move in there. In the meantime, Norris’ house will be under roof by Friday if all goes as planned.
One of the locals stopped in the MDS office and asked, “Are they working faster than they’re supposed to?” We are still giggling about that with him.
