Point Au Chien, LA – Feb. 15-21, 2026
For the week of February 15-20, our group came from Indiana. They consisted of 3 young couples and 6 single gals. Between the laughs, singing and energetic fellowship, they accomplished much. They finished the subfloor, built walls and partitions, plywood and wrap was put on outside walls, windows and doors were installed, the front porch and steps (many steps), were built, hurricane straps installed, trusses raised, soffit and window casings started and staging removed at one house and transported to the 4th house and put up. Meanwhile, the first house’s walls were insulated.
These homes are being built fortified. Project Director Bob and Construction Supervisor Al are working to be Fortified Certified Builders. This adds lots of hardware to the buildings and makes them much stronger. We pray they will withstand future hurricanes that they are bound to have here in Pointe-Aux-Chenes.
Plans for next week are to completely close in house #3. Monday is roofing and siding day. As soon as possible, some of the crew will move to house #4 and work toward putting trusses on by week’s end…or further!
We reflect this week on the hospitality shown to MDS by the local tribe. One of the house owner’s sons brought drinks and snacks to the crews this week. The leadership team enjoyed a delicious meal of jambalaya with two of the families we are building for. They stayed and visited afterward for a couple of hours. We’ve enjoyed homemade “boat spaghetti” and gumbo from neighbors of the new homeowners.
God has been so gracious to gift us with the crews we need for the meaningful work we have. We stand in awe of His love and guidance. Should we be surprised? Nope! Paul said it himself: “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19. Amen.
