This week our long-term volunteers, from PA, and OH as well as our short-term volunteer from CA, completed their three weeks with us here in Paradise.

The team finished framing and sheeting the porch at Harrell’s; installed fascia board and roofing felt on both Rubiolo and Harrell houses as well as installed all the windows at both sites.  We took delivery of the windows for the Wynne and Wylie sites.  The Under-Slab Plumbing for the Teri Wynne job was signed off by the inspector.

On Tues. the miracle we’ve been praying for happened and was indeed the highlight of the week.  Just as Don pulled into the ACE hardware parking lot, a plumbing truck pulled in beside him.   Don greeted them with the message, “We’ve been praying for a miracle and I think you are the answer to our prayers.  We are needing a plumber for the houses our volunteers are building”.  Don showed the plumber our house plans, and he agreed to meet in an hour to go look at the jobs.  After looking at all three sites, Calvin said, “We can do this tomorrow, you can call for an inspection for Thursday.  We will do the other two Thurs. and Fri.”  This indeed was a miracle as contractors are swamped with work, so much construction going on all over town.

Next week we are to receive delivery of the doors for both the Rubiolo and Harrell houses and praying for another miracle, finding an electrician so the houses are ready for the RVers.

During the weekends, our team explored the surrounding area hiking along the flume, driving through beautiful towering forested areas that were not burnt and seeing firsthand the devastation fire brought to folks in neighboring areas.  We enjoyed sharing a Klondike break with Cherele the last afternoon the team worked on her house.  As we all know, it’s hard to say goodbyes but indeed wonderful to be a part of bringing folks home again.
