The new leadership team took over this week, led by Project Director Doug Brake and supported by Kent Hering Office Manager, Head Cook Gabby Bomberger and Crew Leader Mike Hofer.  Our team of weekly volunteers consisted of 5 men and 3 women who came to us from Lititz, PA.  In one way or another, they are all associated with Bomberger’s Hardware, a family business that has been serving the community since 1887.  This group had a wonderful sense of humor!

By Monday, the curbing and grading was completed, and the Lyda bridge is now finished.  Material and equipment were transferred to the next job sites.  Throughout the week, work continued on the White bridge (pouring concrete, installing the decking and curbing, grading, placing the gabion baskets, moving materials and site cleanup).  Work on the Kerber bridge began with removing the old bridge, doing layout, installing a temporary walkway, prepping the rebar, and building forms.

The generosity of our clients is amazing.  From feeding lunch to the crews to creating extraordinary baked treats, there was something special for our volunteers every day!  On Wednesday, we met up with the team from Asheville for a scrumptious meal and stories from two of our clients who were intimately involved in the rescue operations as volunteer firefighters.

From the long term team: Doug, Mike and Kent.
