Lahaina, HI – Nov. 17-29, 2025
Our second group of November volunteers arrived after a long day of travel, excited to be here and ready to help build houses. Fifteen volunteers came from Virginia, Indiana, New York, Nebraska, South Dakota and Canada.
On Monday morning, work continued on three houses. House #1 had windows and siding finished and is now waiting for trusses. House #2 had volunteers putting up siding, installing windows and caulking, and is now ready for trusses.
Speaking of trusses, MDS was granted permission to build their own, so Andy and Chris have been diligently working together each day. We now have five volunteers helping to build the trusses for House #2.
The third house is one that MDS is taking over construction on. Framing is completed on this house, which has an LCLT deed restriction on it.
Last weekend we bid farewell to our year-long volunteers, Simon and Lukas, as they headed to a new location to serve.
After returning from work each day, several volunteers head to Baby Beach to cool off. It is the closest beach to the base, a little less than a mile away. Snorkeling is popular there for seeing both fish and turtles.
Weekend activities included visiting Haleakala National Park and other tourist destinations around the island. A “must-see” destination is Ho’okipa Beach, where we watched experienced surfers and saw many Hawaiian green turtles basking on the sand.
We look forward to celebrating with a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday afternoon after a slightly shorter day of work. Beginning Friday evening, the November crew will start to head home after enjoying a fulfilling MDS assignment.
