Lahaina, HI – Mar. 8-14, 2026
This week in Lahaina, HI we had a total of twenty-three volunteers. Five of the volunteers were a family from Saskatchawan, Canada. Ten of the volunteers were a group of friends, nine from Pennsylvania and one from New York. There are eight leadership and long-term volunteers who will be staying for three more weeks.
One of our crews completed a punch list on the two homes that we dedicated to last week. This included painting touches up, calking, installing a mailbox, and other small tasks. They finished those tasks and moved on to another home. Another crew continued working on the roof, siding, and painting the exterior.
We are currently working on one faulty contractor house and two new builds. On one of the new builds, we continued installing siding, exterior painting, and exterior trimming. We are investigating another faulty contractor home that we may be able to help with. The faulty contractor house had a punch list to complete before the drywall could be installed. Two crews went to this house which is an hour away in up country. They completed the punch list and started the drywall.
We started the week with volcanic clouds from Hawaii, the Big Island. This caused sore throats and headaches for some of the volunteers. By Wednesday we were in the middle of a large tropical storm. This has put the hold on any outdoor work. Roads were flooded making travel difficult. Our group of ten young men ask to go to the house that is up country on Saturday to continue the drywall. They said they could not do any of the fun weekend things they planned so they would like to work. They headed out like a normal workday and completed a large amount of the drywall hanging. They safely returned to camp, made themselves dinner from the leftovers in the refrigerator, cleaned up and then gathered for a hymn sing. As they were singing, the rain stopped. Shortly after they finished singing, the rain started again. What an awesome way to end a difficult week.
