Flat Rock/ Hendersonville, NC – Nov. 17-21, 2025 (NC Bridges)
We had a total of 11 volunteers during the week of 11/17–11/21: 8 weekly volunteers and 3 leadership volunteers, working on the Albright and Gongage bridges in Hendersonville, and the Martin Bridge in Flat Rock. Our volunteers were from PA, VA, OH, and IN.
The volunteers worked on three bridges this week. Progress was as follows:
Albright Bridge:
On Monday the volunteers worked on rebar for the stem wall, secured forms, and set the second stem wall. On Tuesday they finished the stem wall forming and poured two footers and two 4′ stem walls. On Wednesday they removed the concrete forms from the footings and stem walls. On Thursday they backfilled and compacted the footing and stem wall and laid riprap. On Friday the volunteers backfilled the footing and stem wall again, laid riprap, and cleaned up.
Gongage Bridge:
On Monday the volunteers installed the bridge deck, rebar, and formed the back wall. On Tuesday they poured the back wall, installed bridge decking, and started placing riprap. On Wednesday they finished the decking, installed side rails, and laid riprap. On Thursday they finished stone bridge and drive approaches, installed signage, and tightened rail bolts. On Friday the volunteers prepped for the dedication. The dedication was held on Friday with approximately 60 people attending. A light meal was served, provided by friends and neighbors.
Martin Bridge:
On Thursday, two of the volunteers worked on a demo walking bridge for the Mark Martin Bridge.
