Elk, WA – Feb. 22- 28, 2026
This week 10 volunteers from Wisconsin brought their experience and enthusiasm to our efforts here in Elk. We made good progress that visibly changed the look inside the houses. It’s so rewarding to see the progress.
Bill’s house – Countertop was installed on the lower cabinets. All but one of the upper cabinets were installed. The flooring has been installed in all of the house accept the kitchen around the cabinets. The furnace and water heater have been delivered.
Steve’s house – The flooring has been installed in the house exept for around the cabinets. Trim and some of the doors have been painted and moved from the storage unit to the house.
Linda’s MDS house – The final sanding has been completed. The windows and doors have been covered in preparation for wall texturing.
Linda’s ADU house – Drywall has been hung. Ceiling insulation has been blown in. Most of the horizontal seams have been taped.
On Wednesday evening, Steve and his daughter joined us for supper and shared some stories about their experience with losing their house in the fire. Steve is anticipating being in his new house in two weeks and is very excited about it. He is creating a scrapbook with pictures of the volunteers building his house.
The February long-term volunteers are packing up and leaving the projects in good shape for the new volunteers coming for the month of March.
