Crisfield, MD – March 23-29, 2025
With sunny skies we welcomed our new crew of 8 seasoned men in the building industry and in their faith in Jesus. We had a wonderful time getting to tackle our objective of completing the 85’ ramp and new flooring for the church. The big decision maker was if we had rain, and God sent the rain on Monday afternoon so that we could start the church project. The sun was out the rest of the week, and both jobs proceeded along as planned. They worked so well together that we finished early and on Thursday afternoon everyone was headed home, except for us long-term volunteers. We continued Friday with plans to leave early Saturday morning.
During the week we were fortunate to have two guests come to dinner and talk with the group. Miss Margo, native of Crisfield, talked about her life here in Crisfield. She was a teacher for 44 years and was the first Native American teacher to teach in a segregated school system in this area. She told us of the challenges she experienced and how her hard work and dedication paid off. She said she loved teaching and working with the young people here in Somerset County MD. You could tell by the way she expressed herself how she loved what she had done in her life and how rewarding it had been.
Our other guest that night was the mayor of Crisfield, Darlene Taylor, and her grandson. She too is a native of Crisfield and had no intention of being a mayor. But God had other plans for her. At the last minute she applied and won the election. When she was elected, she asked what the people wanted her to accomplish, and they all said the flooding in Crisfield. She has worked with distinct groups for grants that have given the city money to help prevent the extreme flooding in Crisfield, to the extent is has been in the past of up to 5.5’. She is now working on the second grant to complete the needed structures. The plans will help keep the city from flooding to the extent they have been, keeping the city safer. She is so glad to be doing this work and feels it is part of God’s plan.
Our meals were delicious, the devotions were real and meaningful and the comradery was great. It was a great week and we are glad for what we could do in Crisfield.
Sincerely,
Crisfield MD Team
