This week has been bitter sweet for most of us here as we said farewell to two of our couples.  Joanne and Dennis along with Bill and Sandi headed home after a ten week stay.   We never say goodbye it is always “we will meet you again.”  They added talent, humor and encouragement to our team and are already missed by the four remaining couples.

On March 17th we had a house blessing for Momma Sue as some of the ladies here called her.  We completed extensive repairs, from ceilings to walls and floors.  The ladies painted two bedrooms and two bathrooms and moved furniture from place to place.  They were even able to help Sue clean- up and rearrange some of the living area.  The entire outside of the home was painted along with the lattice skirting.  As, the weeks flew by she shared with us many stories from her life experiences.  She so enjoyed the camaraderie between some of the women in our group.   I remember the first day we arrived at her home and she thanked Jesus for the answer to her prayers.  During the house blessings she ask if she could pray for all the volunteer.  She stated that we had “become her new family.”  A good time of fellowship followed.  Dave hung the wall hanging in a prominent place for Sue.  On Friday Duane and Jim returned to her home to finish up the flooring, set the toilet, baseboard trim, crown molding and a new faucet in the kitchen.

We also started another repair on a trailer in Aransas Pass.  A young woman and her family had water damage in the trailer.  The guys, being Billy, Dennis and Duane tore out flooring, dry wall and vinyl siding.  On Tuesday new barn-siding was added and painted.  Wednesday the guys started on new drywall.  The homeowner was over-joyed to receive this help from MDS.  She just didn’t think the home would ever be repaired.  This week the team hopes finish up the dry wall, paint it and seal up under the soffit.  There may be some deck and step work to be completed at another site.   We are busy trying to get this all finished before the program concludes here the week of March 28th.
