Week number two has come and gone, and again good progress was made.  We welcomed a new group of strangers on Sunday and said goodbye to a group of friends on Saturday. This group came from Kansas and was a mixed bunch of folks with lots of skills and so plenty was accomplished once again.

At Mr. Willie’s house we installed new entrance and storm doors and then signed off the job card. This job had been on hold since before Christmas, waiting on an ordered door.  Mr. Willie was happy to finally get a nice working door.

Work at Ms. Lai’s continues with more mudding, sanding, and painting.  Crown molding and quarter round were installed, shelving and rods were done in the walk-in closet and then the clean up and the job was called complete.  As their way of saying “Thank-you” Ms. Lai’s husband treated the crew to a couple of delicious lunches.

There was still plenty of activity over at Ms. Marinell’s home again this week. There was flooring laid in a bedroom, shelving put in a closet, a new window installed and trimmed out, more mudding and painting of ceilings and walls and a bunch of smaller jobs.  We are almost done, and Ms. Marinell’s daughter is always saying Thank-you for everything that gets done there.

Over at Mr. Steve’s house we did a lot of ceiling repair.  First came the stain blocker paint, then the final coats of paint and texture. There was some wall painting, a new toilet installed, some cleaning and more painting, this time on the wall vents.  There are a few little details to finish next week before we can sign off.

At Ms. Kalai’s house the crew worked on the roof, where they took out skylights, and fixed the valleys, and re-shingled the repaired spots, and replaced some boots and caulked to make things waterproof.  Inside the house they replaced some drywall in a closet and then mudded and painted said ceiling. Just a few small things to finish before sign-off.

Ms. Muriel was a new sign-on this week and we got started by removing satellite dishes on her roof as well as demolishing a chimney and patched some holes in preparation for a new steel roof install next week.  Inside we did some vent cleaning, put stain blocker paint on the stained ceilings, and did some taping on the living room ceiling.

At camp another bedroom in the office house got it’s clean look with plenty of scraping of old paint and a fresh new coat applied.

Our project director works daily to find and sign on more clients  and stay ahead of all the work the volunteers get done.  The cooks feed us well and our crew leaders do a great job of heading up the volunteer crews, so the jobs continue to move along, and  we end each week with a feeling of a job well done.

Thanks to all who came to serve with us this week, we appreciate you all.
