Amory, MS – Jan. 12-18, 2025
The weather was great for us as we got the project back up and running after the Christmas break, and we were joined by an energetic bunch of young women from Wisconsin and Iowa, as well as another couple also from Iowa. We were also joined by two students from Rosedale Bible College Trades program who will be here for the next five weeks. Our long-term team was on the ground already last week signing up clients and getting organized so that our volunteers would be able to get right to work Monday morning.
At Ms. Lai’s house the work consisted of insulating, hanging drywall, taping and mudding and then painting ceilings, walls, doors and crown molding. Good progress was made and next week we should be able to finish up. Ms. Lai and her husband made a delicious lunch of burgers and fries for the volunteers on Thursday to show their appreciation.
We signed on Ms. Ruby last week and this week saw a new steel roof put on her house as well as some patching and painting on two ceilings inside, as well as a bit of electrical work. Ms. Ruby was very pleased with all the improvements, and we signed off that job card on Friday.
Ms. Marinell was happy to see us come and get to work on her home. We pulled up some rugs, straightened the floors and put down some new flooring for her. There was some drywall work done and some bedroom ceilings and wall painted, and a new light put in above the kitchen sink. Ms. Marinell’s daughter was very helpful, and one volunteer gave her some painting tips and she was excited to do some of the painting in the kitchen.
At Mr. David’s house we replaced ceiling tiles and did some other minor repairs and painting. Mr. David enjoyed the company of the volunteers and treated them to pizza for lunch one day, and was sorry to see them go when the job was done.
A new steel roof was put on Ms. Saprina’s house along with repairing the doors so that she can now lock them. There were some electrical repairs and a lot of cleaning done.
Here at camp, we rejuvenated one of the bedrooms in the office house with a fresh coat of paint and a good cleaning job.
The crews worked hard, but still had energy in the evenings for volleyball, games, and singing, and lots of laughter as we all got to know each other and form new friendships. It was a good week!
