Our week five volunteers were a group of 14 men and women from the Goshen, Indiana area. It was also transition week and we were joined by the new construction supervisor from Manitoba on Wednesday, and by the next project director and office manager on Thursday.  Most of us will be heading home this weekend, except for one crew leader and the head cook, but they will be joined by the new team coming in and the work will continue.

We had seven sign offs this week.

Ms. Tiffany signed off and with it came happy tears. She was and is very thankful for all that was done for her, and especially for all the volunteers who came and cheerfully worked on her home.

Ms. Muriel was another sign off and she was also very thankful and happy for the work done for her.

For Mr. Curtis we repaired the floor in the bathroom, remounted the toilet and resolved the plumbing problem that we noticed last week. The porch was caulked and painted, the flooring was finished and transition strips put in, doors were repaired and finally a coat of paint on the living room ceiling.  Mr. Curtis was happy to have the work done, and now is ready for his brother to come visit next week, and he signed off.

At Ms. Rosalind’s we did some more painting to finish up and she happily signed off.

Ms. Pam had quite a lot of work done and we finished off last week with a lot of painting and finishing touches, and this week she was ready to sign off, thankful for work well done and a home back to normal.

Mr. Kevin was also ready to sign off, happy with his new roof, soffit and ceiling repairs and fresh coat of paint on ceilings and in his kitchen.

We had done a new roof and some indoor repairs for Ms. Saprina and now it was time to finish up there as well.  She was very thankful for what we had done for her and signed off with grateful hugs for the project director.

A new sign on this week was Ms. Nickie.  At her house we replaced siding and window trim and painted it and by the end of the week the outside of the house had one coat of new paint. We enlarged the door opening for her laundry closet and installed shelving and a new door with better access and did some painting of doors and trim.   Some kitchen cabinets were replaced and the soft spots on the floor were repaired. Nickie is constantly shedding happy tears.

Another sign on this week was Ms. Shiree, where we painted ceilings in the bedroom and bathroom.

At Ms. Erika’s, also a new sign on, we started with some clean up inside to make room for painting, stripped wallpaper, primed the wall and got the ceiling painted in the living room.

Work continued at Ms. Rosie’s house with ceiling repairs on the inside.  Damaged drywall was cut our, insulation replaced, and then new drywall installed, taped and mudded and then painting of the ceilings.  There were some doors adjusted, and electrical work done and then we tackled the problems in the bathrooms and now they are in better working shape. We also put up some lights and fans, fixed doorknobs and did some cleaning.

We have also been busy at St Paul’s MB Church, painting and installing trim, putting down flooring, as well as repairing doors and other small jobs.

And so, week five comes to an end.  Once again plenty of work got done, thanks to our volunteers who so cheerfully gave time and talents to serve here. We know that we are doing a good thing for the community, and we pray that God will bless the clients and the things we did to get them back to their normal. We also pray for God’s blessing on the new long-term team that continues the work here.
