We were joined for week four by some new crew leaders.  One came to us from the project at Wynne and another crew leader and the assistant cook came from Ontario to join our ranks.  Rounding out the week was a crew of twelve men from Manitoba and another two from Wisconsin.

The warm and dry weather this week was a great help and allowed us to put four steel roofs on.  That felt good and I know Mr. Curtis, Ms. Rosalind, Ms. Rosie, and Ms. Tiffany are all very happy to have a new roof over their heads.

Ms. Tiffany also got a new deck and stairs on her home and next week there will be some inside work that needs to get done.

Ms. Rosie also got a new set of stairs on the front and a handrail put on the back stairs and a new latch on her door.

At Ms. Rosalind’s house there was some ceiling repair work done to get ready for painting next week.

At Mr. Curtis’ house they caulked joints on the soffit and fascia and then primed it in preparation for painting next week. Inside they repaired the soft parts of the floor and laid down some vinyl flooring also to be continued next week. Investigation got underway as to why his sewer system didn’t work, and problem solved.

Ms. Pam’s home had a lot of finishing touches done.  Outside windows were trimmed and caulked, interior doors painted, and knobs installed, trim painted and installed on interior windows, a shelf put up in the closed and a dryer vent installed.  There are a few finishing touches left for another day next week.

Ms. Ruby’s deck and ramp were finished and Mr. Johnny, her husband is happy to be able to get in and out more freely.

We had a small crew going around from place to place doing a bunch of the small jobs that didn’t need a whole crew for a whole day.  They pulled down some drywall from Mr. Kevin’s ceilings, replaced it and mudded it in preparation for painting.  The same time they worked on Ms. Tiffany’s  ceiling, replacing drywall and mudding it.   They also replaced batteries in the smoke detectors so that they  would quit chirping and be useful again. . They went to Ms. Muriel’s house and replaced all her soffit vents and worked on some projects at Ms. Saprina’s as well.  They installed a new toilet for her and fixed up her dryer plug and she put her dryer right to use, and they got some of her lights working.

And so we closed out the week with a sense of a job well done and happy to know that our clients lives are closer to normal again.  The volunteers that got to interact with the clients were blessed  by their thankfulness, by their testimonies  and stories of the storm.
