Amory, MS – Oct. 27 – Nov. 2
Three of the year-long volunteers, Katie & Jonathon Snyder, IN and Adam Blough, NY joined us this week. David King, VA, construction supervisor; Tim Gerber, OH, head cook; Ruthi & Jim Gochnauer, NY, assistant cook & crew leader; Andy McGee, OR, crew leader and Don & Rachel Horst, KS, project director & office manager completed our long-term team. Serving as weekly volunteers were Ned, KS and Ron, IL, bringing our total number of volunteers to 12.
Since we had a smaller crew this week, everyone started out at the Cheney house, continuing work on the bathroom, bedroom and siding. Then, several volunteers went to the Standifr home to begin repairs on the dining room, living room and bathroom ceilings, as well as, preparing the kitchen cabinets for painting.
Wed. evening the Meadowwood Baptist Church in Amory invited us to join them for a lovely evening meal of pulled pork. In the evenings, several Euchre games and ambitious puzzlers relaxed around tables in the camp activities building.
Next week we will continue with the bathroom repairs at the Cheney house and finishing the repairs at the Standifr house.
Having completed their two-week assignment, we said our goodbyes to Ruthi and Jim Gochnauer Friday morning. Due to a previously scheduled use of the Morganwood Youth Camp, by the ladies of the Red Banks Baptist Church, we needed to vacate the camp Friday & Saturday. Some of us went hiking at the Tishomingo State Park, others took in the sights of Tupelo, including the birthplace of Elvis Pressley. It had rained most of Thursday, so the warm, sunny weather over the weekend was greatly appreciated.
