This life is bigger than yourself
Bluffton University student Colin Burba, 22, served with Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) in St. Louis, Missouri, because he was inspired “by the chance to serve others with my gifts that have been gifted to me by God, and the opportunity to visit a state I have never been to.”
The experience was beyond what he expected. “The work was laboring, but it was worth doing because you were able to be part of something that will be valuable to those in need,” Burba said. “My favorite moment of the week was the emotions being expressed throughout the entirety of the trip. It made me realize even more that this life is bigger than yourself.”
He added that it was eye opening to him that his heart has a true desire to do good in this world. He already plans to serve with MDS again after he graduates.
In the meantime, he has a prayer request: “for courage and the will and passion to keep living my life for God—no matter how hard it gets.”
