Conroe, TX – SYP – June 29- July 5, 2025

Katie & Jonathon Snyder from IN, year-long volunteers, continue to serve as Crew Leaders until early August.  Also here for this week were Crew Leaders Norm Yoder and Bill Metschulat, Project Director Abe Wiebe, Office Manager Emily Goertz, and cooks Sovilla Plank and Fannie Maie Yoder.   The weekly volunteers were a SYP group from Mountain Lake, MN; Lincoln, NB; and Marion, SD, with a total of 18 youth and adults. Lynn Miller from IN, who is taking over as Project Director, arrived mid-week.

Crews again worked on seven houses this week:  Work at the Falbe home included building a cupboard in the kitchen, hanging a bathroom door and major yard cleanup. Flooring and a sheetrock patch was completed on the Duarte home.  Work at the Garney home was finished with bathroom flooring, toilet installation and baseboards, and trash removal and yard cleanup.  Painting, door replacement and drywall work was completed at one home, and on another home, work began with interior painting, mold treatment and starting construction of a ramp.    At another new site, drywall installation on the entire lower floor, and yard cleanup was started.  At the Schafer home a job replacing flooring and some siding was begun.

Highlights of the week included volleyball and cornholes games, including VB in the rain one evening.  Participants in the SYP felt they had meaningful conversations with several homeowners and gained some amazing skills.  On Friday evening, the SYP group took an outing to Galveston to swim in the gulf, eat out and watch fireworks – a late night before they left for the drive home on Saturday morning.

Next week we hope to finish a couple of houses that are one step away from completion and begin work on several new sites.
