We have a (mostly) new crew of leadership this week 6 in Amory, along with a fun group of students from Conrad Grebel College, Ontario, CA.  They were held up at the border for 4 hours, and we are so glad that they were able to continue on down to MS so we could all meet and serve together!

There is good work being done in this community and the people are so thankful.  While they won’t remember each individual that has worked on their home, they will remember MDS and the collective group that came to help respond, rebuild, and restore their homes and their hope.

Our evening reports have been most entertaining as the group rose to the encouragement of being creative in sharing the work done each day.  We have had songs, poems, recitations set to music, skits, rapping, a quiz show, and a Broadway-style production for their finale on Friday.

Fortunately we’ve had lots of indoor work to do this week as the temperatures have been in the teens and 20s during some of the day.  We woke up to snow on Wednesday!

At Ms. Erika’s house, painting continues on the ceiling, trim and windowpanes.

At Ms. Nickie’ house, there have been repairs on the siding and trim, the closet repaired and cabinets fixed and strengthened, and a door was fixed.

At Ms. Shiree’s house, a quick job of filling in some holes around the ceiling fan was done.

At Ms. Rosie’s, new flooring is being laid, the bedroom, bathroom and closet floors were done.  A new vanity will be installed.

At the church, the baseboard painting was finished up and the volunteers did 7 bell ringings and played Bach on the piano.

At Mr. Ronnie’s house, the bedroom ceiling was torn down and wallboard was peeled off.

At Ms. Rock Ann’s the dining room floor was pulled up, new joists were installed and subfloor put on top; there is work being done in her bathroom and bedroom as well, and a new washing machine was installed.  She also had a screen door fixed and deadbolt replaced.

We signed off on Ms. Erika’s house and have a few jobs that will be finished up the beginning of next week.

We are in the process of signing on 6 new homes this week and are thankful for the opportunity to connect the MDS volunteers and the homeowners in Amory who are blessed by and a blessing to them.
