Eastern KY – July 2-8, 2023
A group of 16 UMCOR volunteers from Alabama worked through the week. A local Methodist church provided lodging for them and they brought their own cooks with them. The group included several skilled carpenters along with youth and adult helpers.
Most of the week was spent working on Saralene Noble’s house completing both the front and rear deck, steps, and railings. Also did interior cleaning, exterior grading, and finished the flooring and trim work. In addition they insulated the floor on the Saralene Noble house and blew in the attic insulation on both Saralene and Michael Back’s house.
On Friday some of the volunteers went to Leland Noble’s house and built the front deck.
Perry Siding from Hazard installed the gutters on both S Noble and Back houses.
Nancy Pastor, the electrician from Frederick, MD who did the rough-in electric on both houses, came on Monday with her husband Rick and worked 3 days to finish all the electrical work on both houses. The houses will be ready for electrical inspection after the range hood and hot water heater Aare installed. Rick owns Brandenburg Electric, Inc. a commercial and residential electric company in Frederick and they both spend time each year volunteering with Brethren Disaster Ministries.
Turners Creek Mennonite Church hosted Nancy, Rick, and Joe Byler in their duplex apartment.
Brian Cornett has completed the HVAC on both houses and will be finishing the plumbing in the next week or two.
Kitchen cabinets and countertops are scheduled for the week of July 17. Joe Byler along with a volunteer from his church are planning to be there that week. I’d love to have an additional volunteer or two to help hang cabinets and finish the punch out list on both houses.
