West Asheville, NC – Sept. 14-20, 2025
The week started out with a major setback when it was discovered during an inspection that all the wiring for the newly finished HVAC system needed to be replaced in order to pass inspection. By midweek, the ceilings were once again opened and wiring was happening everywhere. Thankful that by Friday over 1000 ft was rewired and ready for the HVAC inspection next week.
Tremendous progress in the building was made by the seasoned group of 10 volunteers from Goshen, IN. This church group from Pleasant View Church have been MDS volunteers for many years, several times a year.
So much painting, LVP flooring laid, door knobs installed and a kitchenette installation was completed!
Cheers broke out when the commercial sink was installed and the hot water heater was turned on and for the 1st time at this MDS site, hot water was available from the tap in the kitchen for the cooking crew!
While all this was happening at the RSAA building, a crew was at Shelton’s house to tear out and rebuild the front porch steps and a portion of the front porch.
Larry Stoner, Project Director, has been busy making connections with the many Long Term recovery organizations to see how MDS can help with the ongoing rebuilding happening in the area after almost 1 year since Hurricane Helene caused the destruction.
Please join us in praying for favor with the inspections we anticipate this week to finally get our occupancy finalized.
Below is a glimpse at the work Bob Tingle, Crew Leader and a crew did on Friday in Swannanoa.
“We’ll be heading out to Swannanoa, North Carolina, tomorrow to fix a hole in the top of a house. Can you even imagine why a hole would be in this roof? Swannanoa is one of the towns most devastated by hurricane Helene. During the worst of the flooding a neighbor was boating through the area helping people when he heard yelling coming from the attic in this home. Breaking a hole in the roof was a lifesaving effort for this fortunate family. We have the privilege of being a very small part of this beautiful story. Our God is always good.”
