Sunday evening, December 14, we welcomed a group of thirteen men from Pennsylvania, and a college student from Virginia, to work on housing repairs.   Two local men volunteered with us on Thursday.

Monday, we were joined for dinner by Robert Knight and wife April. Robert is the pastor for outreach at a local church, which is funding the repairs at Marissa’s house.

One team worked with crew leader, Doug, installing door and window trim, baseboards and kitchen cabinets at Joi and Morgan’s house.

David’s team continued the work on Marissa’s house: painting the bedroom, sanding drywall,  fixing windows, completing the bathroom, and installing smoke alarms.

Meanwhile, on the roof, Jason’s group stripped old shingles, applied peel and stick underlayment, installed a chimney, finished shingling the roof, and hauled gravel for the French drain which was installed around the house by hand to prevent future foundation erosion.  By the end of the week, Marissa’s house was finished, and she was busy cleaning up and decorating for Christmas!  She was super excited. “You gave me my house back”.

Simon’s group corrected some misplaced wall sections, and set interior walls and trusses, and sheeted and dried in the roof for Phil.

Lukas and David finished the week by installing Vincent’s kitchen cabinets.

Duke Electric, the local utility, still needs to cut over to the new 3phase 800amp 208VAC service.  The final electrical inspection is delayed until next week.

On Saturday, we all headed off for the holidays.  Merry Christmas everyone!
