After setting up camp for a week we received 14 energetic and excited young adults from NY and PA. Ms. Carolyn’s home had the foundation completed. We framed it and were able to shingle the roof and put up some interior walls. Mr. John’s home needed the block walls filled with concrete. The volunteers tackled the job with ease and cheerfulness.  In spite of the cold weather the volunteers were able to put on sill plates, floor joist, center beam and do the subfloor. Exterior walls are up as well.

It’s been a great week; surfing with OSB boards, the thought of spraying sprite on the roof to make it sticky so that you don’t slide off, to the fear of bear hovering in the background!

Ever heard of hot and cold therapy? This week’s group has experienced it. Shower trailers at the best! The next groups might not get to experience it due to installing new showers in the building. If anyone, the cook’s especially, will appreciate the hot showers. They were told by a local guy to make sure to shower before 10:00PM! Apparently no one suffered from the cook’s hot & cold therapy. At the end of the week they received an award for their service.

Pastor Michael Evans is a blessing to work with. He will do anything he can to help make our stay enjoyable and will do whatever it takes to make it easy for us. It was a delight to serve his family a meal one night and to hear his testimony.

From hard work, to cold, windy days, to frozen lotion on door handles, to cold showers, to survival kits, it’s been a great week!

Next week we plan to frame up Mr. John’s home, paint trim and repair another home.
