Selma, AL – Jan. 5-11, 2025
The first week of this new year at Selma has been very productive. Our volunteers came from Philadelphia, Iowa, Goshen IN, Maryland, Delaware, New York, and other places. We had a pastor and a retired college professor to mix with our younger set, which made for a wonderful blend of humor and lively youthfulness!
We almost finished an outer room and exterior door at Willoughby’s house that was left incomplete before Christmas. It should be done early next week.
Moore graciously gave us the run of her stately home, which needed a bunch of patching and painting. She was happy to boast about her hard-working grandchildren, who have overcome some difficult obstacles to reach their goals. Work on her home will continue next week.
Reese got a new roof, thanks to our industrious crew of seasoned veteran builders, who partnered with Rosedale students and two Bruderhof youth, teaching them both good roofing skills and enduring work ethic.
Jonathan and Katie Snyder, with the MDS yearlong program, have joined us on their first attempt at crew leading. They are doing admirably.
So are Kirsten and Lorissa, who are cooking for the first time at an MDS site. They keep everyone fortified with their wonderful meals and desserts!
The surrounding churches and residence of Selma have been very friendly and accommodating. We sure appreciate their support as we try to do justice to the tasks at hand.
