San Juan, PR – Mar. 22-28, 2026
Six young men from Ontario joined a couple from Alberta and a man from North Carolina and successfully completed our two final projects by Thursday afternoon. Even the tropical depression that settled in on Tuesday night could not stop the construction progress.
Friday morning the trucks and tool trailer were cleaned and inspected in preparation for storage at the PR Unit. After lunch, eight of our weekly volunteers headed for Air B&B accommodations, anticipating some free days in PR before returning home.
From the beginning, Techos Pa Mi Gente has provided lunch for our volunteers. Several of their staff make the delivery to work sites each day. The last lunch on Friday was brought to the Techos headquarters and eaten in the Gazebo
Our cook and office manager spent Friday putting kitchen and office things in order. Our area coordinator, Herb Hoover, arrived on Wednesday to assist in the closing process.
Nine roofs were completed between January 2 and Friday. In many cases it was hard to leave a home knowing more than the roof needed attention. MDS helped Techos Pa Mi Gente exceed their quarterly goal for completed roofs by 50%.
