Family Program in South Carolina at Sakanaga.

Two families, a grandmother from Idaho and her three grandchildren and the Travis family of four from Tremont Illinois served at the camp this week. Sadly, the family of 8 from Canada could not pass through the border into the USA and were not able to join the team.

Our jobs include building fences. Thirty-two holes were dug using post hole diggers to put up 4 fences, repair one fence and begin a fifth. The younger children removed the rotting boards, helped pound out the nails which included a competition to see who removed the most nails, used screw guns to secure new rails and began painting the completed fences. The dirt at the camp is red clay which tends to be hard to break through.  Caleb Travis is training for football, so he didn’t miss his workout!!

We cut down several trees using a chain saw, followed by the younger children using hand saws to help remove branches and throw them over a bank. The rest of the wood was added to a pile to be spilt into firewood. A baby changing table was installed on the wall in the restrooms.

The Children took a nature retreat to collect bugs and objects for our collages; a highlight was finding an amazing dead Hercules Beetle which Regan Senefsky glued onto a tree bark display.

Jeannie Lee-Moser; My most touching moment was when our youngest volunteers did devotions on Friday morning. They stated how they knew “God is always with us”.

Jeff Moser; My crew was phenomenal! Two teens who were not used to physical labor and their parents did really hard work digging all those holes. They were GREAT. Hopefully we can see them again sometime.
