Eleven Old Order Amish young men, ages 19 – 21, from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania arrived in an RV Sunday evening. After hours of traveling, they still had energy to cook their hot dogs and play some games of ladder golf.

Throughout the week, these hard-working young men painted siding, installed siding and did the final touch up work on Jessica’s house #6. One young man did an excellent job trimming the inside of the windows. Jessica’s house is now completed. They began work on Tara’s house #8, tearing off siding, painting and installing the siding and trim. One day they fought rain to the best of their ability. Another day they incurred some serious sunburn. Tara’s house is also completed. The group began work on Juliet’s house #7 where they ripped off siding, painted and installed trim. This house is also finished, making a total of three houses this crew completed. In addition, Polly’s house #5 is nearing completion. The amazing food, an evening at the beach and, of course, a trip to the dump to see the bears are highlights for these fun-loving young men.

Wednesday evening, homeowner Victoria (house #3) joined us for supper. Her house is completed and she expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ hard work. She shared her experience during the tornado and hailstorm that damaged her house. She also gave us insights into the culture and traditions of the native Americans.
