Port Charlotte, FL – March 9-15, 2025
This week our camp was blessed with 5 energetic, well-spoken high schoolers, and their parents, from Ontario, Canada. The boys willingly gave up their Spring Break to come and learn some new construction skills. In addition, we welcomed 2 couples from Pennsylvania.
The tin roof, soffits and fascia work on the Redding home, in Arcadia, was completed this week, thanks to Daniel and his team. They then moved on to the May home where they installed a window and a toilet.
Ginny and her team completed the drywall/painting work in the Cella home. Two windows and a pocket door were installed, and a bathroom was gutted.
Roger led the team at the Tipton home, working on flooring, trim, installing a toilet and building the kitchen cabinets. These cabinets had been bought as flat packages and proved to be a challenge to assemble. At this home, the homeowner is highly invested in the restoration process and spent an evening assembling most of the pieces.
Micah honed his leadership skills by directing the flooring project.
Chuck’s team was given the most challenging work – insulating the underside of the Thigpen home. This was a 2-step process that required insulation and vapor barrier. The boys assigned to this team were good sports! Chuck, being the leader that he is, sweetened the experience with an ice cream stop on the way home! Another job for this team was to install bigger air return vents at the church. They also removed and installed two windows at the Adams’ home.
It was a pleasure to see everyone grow in their skills and embrace the opportunity to do something that was outside their comfort zone. Many indicated that they would like to serve again.
Submitted on behalf of the long-term team: Verne & Joyce Geissinger, Chuck & Ginny Gibson, Daniel & Pamela Wiebe, Corey Wiebe, Roger & Anne Friesen.
