Newton, TX – RV – Feb. 2-8, 2025
This week ended with great joy – a house blessing at the Minnix home – a culmination of over 1,000 hours of service given by approximately 24 volunteers over 13 weeks. We are excited for the homeowner who is very eager to move in. The house blessing was well attended by her family, friends, church family and members of the organizations involved with funding and case management.
The beginning of the week was “business as usual”! Well, not exactly “as usual” – two of the crews are involved in some undesirable, crawl-space work. Remember, these homes were damaged by a flood, and we recently had more heavy rain, so the crawl spaces are wet and muddy. We have some servant-hearted guys working under there! At the Thomas mobile home, Doug and Bill removed carpet in one bedroom and installed flooring. Then, they removed old, wet insulation and began installing new insulation under the home.
At the Diggles home, Vernon and Tom torn out all old plumbing and began replacing the water and drain lines under the house. Duane and Ed installed the dryer vent, trim and flooring in the laundry room, and installed the sink in the master bath. This home will be ready for a house blessing soon.
Work at the Minter home included installing insulation and drywall in the bedroom and bathroom. The toilet and sink were removed, and the walls were taped, mudded, primed, sanded and textured.
On Monday and Tuesday, Ed, Jean, Lori, Darlene and Duane put the finishing touches on the Minnix home. They finished trim work, installed handles, did touch-up painting and cleaned the house and windows in preparation for the house blessing and the owner’s occupancy.
We have been joined by Bill and Sandi from Indiana, bringing our group to 15 volunteers. Our group enjoys being together and, since there aren’t a lot of things to see and do in this area without driving a distance, our Thursday evening potluck and games is a highlight of the week!
