Newton, TX – RV – Feb. 16-22, 2025

Work continued this week at the Minter home.  Volunteers installed flooring and trim, and then, painted and hung doors in the bathroom.  Window boxes were made and installed where the front sliding patio doors had been in the converted garage.  Hardie board was installed and caulked on the front of the house.  Two additional doors were hung and baseboard was installed, caulked and painted, as well as flooring in the living room.

Ed, Bill, and Dave spent most of the week at the Wright home.  They installed house wrap on the front of the home and replaced three windows.  Smaller windows were installed and so it was necessary to do some framing.  They made window boxes to trim out the windows and began installing Hardie board.

Mr. Diggles’ stove hood was installed on Tuesday – it was the last item to be done in his house.  On Friday morning we had a house blessing.  His 94-year-old mother, his daughters, granddaughter and friends were present, along with representatives from the Long-Term Recovery Group.  He has been a very gracious client, and he again expressed his appreciation for all the work that MDS has done in getting him back home.

Guests at our Thursday night potluck meal were Ms. Minter and her sister and Ms. Wright.  We had an enjoyable evening visiting with them and hearing their stories about the flooding event in April.   We grilled bratwursts and served sauerkraut with them – our guests had never tasted sauerkraut, but decided it was “okay”!

Saturday at 1:00, we met the Liberty TX RV group for lunch at a restaurant with each of us driving halfway.  It was fun to meet new volunteers and greet other volunteers we have worked with previously.   We ate delicious Italian food and exchanged stories for two hours.
