The week of January 20 – 24, in Merced, CA,  included 14 weekly volunteers, homes ranging from Iowa to Ontario and Alberta. They did some floor work again – tearing out and replacing with durock and tile. Painting, priming, mudding, sanding, insulating, tiling a couple of showers, and installing doors, cabinets, countertop kept the young people very busy.  One gentleman was busy taking care of plumbing issues, a valuable and welcome skill this week. Learning to work with and spray textured walls was part of this week’s projects also.
Several projects were brought to a close while several more are close approaching that goal.
One highlight of the week for the project director was when a young man expressed his excitement at learning the skill of laying tile floors.
Next week will likely be more of the same as these homes are within walking distance of each other, and experienced the same standing water that didn’t completely dissipate from the crawl spaces for 6-7 months after the flooding.
