Liberty, TX – RV – Feb. 16-22, 2025
What a rainy cold week we had in southeast Texas this week! The temperatures were in the 30’s earlier in the week, but Jim had gotten the furnace turned on in Jose’s house so working there was comfortable. However, the furnace was turned off when the crew left, so when the temperature dipped into the 20’s on Thursday our Project Director decided to have an hour delay. Jim traveled to Jose’s (which is an hour away) to turn the furnace on so the team would have a warm place to work when they arrived.
Despite the cold, much work was accomplished at Jose’s this week. Jonathan, Wilma and Eleanor finished the drywall prep. After that they began color paint application with the textured paint roller on the primed walls. Since our team only replaced the sheetrock on the bottom half of the wall in some rooms, the textured roller helped match the texture on the top half of the wall. Nancy, Tye, Eleanor and Peggy applied the colored paint to other walls that did not need the textured roller, and Peggy and Darlene painted trim and interior doors.
Ray and Jim installed the closet doors and worked on floor prep so Darlene and Ray and Jim and Eleanor and Wilma and Jonathan could install flooring. (there is a lot of flooring to be done in this house). Jonathan and Wilma also installed some baseboard. In between trips to stores and looking at new jobs, Pete was able to install flooring and trim in the bathroom.
Of course, what are 4 days of work without some fun activities? Becky Gochnauer, MDS Interim Field Operations Manager, visited our work site and campground on Monday and took us all out to dinner. We enjoyed conversation with Becky and a great meal at Tony’s BBQ and Steakhouse. On Saturday our group met for lunch with the Newton RV group. Newton and Liberty are about 2 hours apart so each group traveled about an hour to Silsbee where we had a delicious lunch and fellowship at Joe’s Italian Grill. On Sunday, we attended a service at Freedom Church in Liberty and enjoyed lunch and fellowship at My Little Kitchen.
