Lahaina, HI – Oct. 20-26, 2025
This week marked the first of two for our current group of weekly volunteers in Lahaina. Thirteen volunteers arrived from across North America, representing communities in Lititz, Pennsylvania; Soldotna, Alaska; Calgary, Alberta; Frisco, Texas; Latrobe, Pennsylvania; Saegertown, Pennsylvania; Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Normalville, Pennsylvania.
They were joined by seven long-term leadership volunteers from Kalona, Iowa; Walnut Creek, Ohio; Kingsburg, California; New Paris, Pennsylvania; Tucson, Arizona; Albany, Oregon; and Berne, Indiana. Two year-long volunteers also served this week—one from Chugiak, Alaska, and another from Düsseldorf, Germany.
A major highlight of the week was the raising of both exterior and interior walls for the first home. The lift team included fifteen biweekly and year-long volunteers, along with the office manager, head and assistant cooks, two crew leaders, the construction supervisor, and the project director.
Volunteers also completed the construction and finishing of the basecamp’s detached laundry and shower building and are nearing completion of the detached kitchen. Both structures are built on steel I-beams, allowing them to be relocated in the future to the planned Lahaina Resiliency Center—a hub designed to bring together emergency responders, government agencies, and faith-based and nonprofit organizations for future disaster response efforts.
Another meaningful moment came through a morning presentation from the Lahaina Cultural Preservation organization, which provided valuable insight into local history and cultural sensitivity, helping volunteers better understand and serve the community they’re working in.
Glory be to God for the strength and unity shown through this dedicated team as they continue to bring hope and restoration to Lahaina.
